Viscosity Measurements on Gaseous Methane: Re-evaluation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Previous experimental viscosity data for gaseous methane, published by Schley et al. (Int J Thermophys 25:1623, 2004) and originally obtained using a vibrating-wire viscometer in the temperature range between 260 K 360 K, were re-evaluated after an improved re-calibration. For this purpose, new reference value argon at 298.15 zero density, proposed Vogel (Mol Phys 108:3335, 2010) further updated Hellmann (Private Communication, 2020), was applied.

NOTE: Detection of Gaseous Methane on Pluto

0.5% CO, 1.5% CH4 (by mass), and N2 in an intimate mixture (Owen et al. 1993). Assuming the N2–CO–CH4 frost acts like an ideal mixture, We obtained Pluto’s spectrum using the CSHELL echelle one finds that XCH4 is only 0.0001% to 0.001%. However, Lellouch (1994) spectrograph at NASA’s IRTF on Mauna Kea, on 25–26 May points out that Triton’s XCH4 is several hundred times greater than that 1992, w...

Methane number testing of alternative gaseous fuels

Alternative gaseous fuels, like syn-gas and bio-gas, are attractive fuels for internal combustion engines due to energy and environmental concerns. Although the worldwide use of alternative gaseous fuels has increased, the knock properties of these fuels are not well understood. The methane number (MN) knock rating technique was selected based on its range and sensitivity. Eight alternative gas...

Measurements of Gaseous Diffusion Coefficients

Accurate knowledge of molecular diffusion coeffi· cients and their temperature dependence is important in obtaining fundamental information on forces be· tween unlike molecules. Until recently most diffusion measurements were conducted over short temperature intervals because the conventional methods such as the Loschmidt or the Stefan, require the thermostating of large, static systems. Walker...

Viscosity and Density Measurements

2. Working Equations of the Vibrating-Wire Instrument Our implementation [1] of the steady-state vibrating-wire technique is similar to that described by Audonnet and Pádua [2] in which the wire is driven at frequency f by a constant sinusoidal current I, and the emf V(f) generated across the vibrating wire is measured with a two-phase lock-in amplifier. This measured emf generally comprises tw...
